WASHINGTON, DC – Vice President JD Vance is set to visit Delhi on April 21, where he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The trip is seen as pivotal for thousands of Indians working in the U.S., particularly those on H-1B visas, The Times,UK said in its report.

Indian nationals make up about 70% of all H-1B visa recipients, with more than 200,000 issued to Indians in the past year. Many visa holders are reportedly postponing or canceling trips home due to ongoing uncertainties, the report said after speaking with Indians in the US on work visas. The Trump administration has been mercurial in its implementation of immigration rules.

The H-1B visa issue is expected to feature prominently in the discussions when Modi hosts Vance in the Indian capital on April 21. An official at the Observer Research Foundation told the paper, “I’d expect him to say we’ll play ball on America deporting illegal Indian immigrants but in return Modi may ask for more H-1B visas to be issued. At the very least, no curtailment.”

Vance’s four-day trip is intended to strengthen U.S.-India relations, with an emphasis on economic and strategic cooperation. The atmosphere is expected to be cordial. During their last meeting in France this February, Vance described Modi as “gracious and kind” and expressed appreciation for gifts given to his children.

Public interest in the visit is heightened by Vance’s personal ties to India through his wife, Usha, whose parents emigrated from Andhra Pradesh to the U.S. in the 1970s. The state has produced tens of thousands of engineers and IT professionals who now work in America, and Telugu has emerged as the fastest-growing language in the U.S., The Times noted.
