WESTFIELD, NJ -Democratic congressional candidate Dr. Tina Shah has raised $1 million over the past two reporting quarters in her bid to represent New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, according to figures released by her campaign on January 6.

The fundraising haul places Shah among the fastest Democratic contenders in the district to reach the seven-figure mark. Her campaign reported approximately $650,000 in cash on hand as she enters the 2026 election cycle.

Shah, a physician and critical care specialist, is challenging Republican incumbent Tom Kean Jr. in a race widely viewed as competitive. The Cook Political Report and the Center for Politics currently rate the contest as a toss-up, while the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has listed the district among its 2026 “Districts in Play.”

In a statement released by her campaign, Shah linked the fundraising milestone to voter concerns around healthcare and affordability. “We need representatives who will lower costs for working families, protect reproductive rights, and ensure access to high-quality healthcare,” Shah said. “New Jerseyans are demanding leaders who put patients ahead of industry profits.”

A triple board-certified intensive care physician, Shah has worked across both public and private sectors on healthcare delivery and policy. Her experience includes federal health roles under three presidential administrations, where she contributed to initiatives aimed at expanding healthcare access for veterans and addressing clinician burnout. In New Jersey, she has supported legislative efforts to curb insurance denials of medical care.

Before entering the race, Shah served as chief medical officer at an artificial intelligence based healthcare company, where she worked on reducing administrative burdens for doctors and nurses. Her campaign has highlighted her medical and policy background as central to her candidacy in the closely watched contest.
