Transwoman Navya Singh To Compete In Miss Universe India Pageant

MUMBAI, (ANI) – Navya Singh, a rising star in the entertainment and fashion industries, is once again breaking new ground as one of the finalists from Maharashtra for the Miss Universe India 2024 pageant on September 22. This year’s competition marks a historic milestone as trans women, including Navya and two other contestants from Chennai and Delhi, will compete in the pageant for the first time.

Reflecting on her groundbreaking journey, Navya told the media, “I’m honored to be part of a platform like the Miss Universe India pageant, which is embracing diversity in such a powerful way. This opportunity is not just a personal milestone but a breakthrough moment for all trans women and marginalized communities. I hope my experience inspires others to proudly own their identity and keep pushing for the recognition they deserve.”

Born in Katihar, Bihar, Navya’s journey has been one of resilience. After experiencing gender dysphoria in her teens, she moved to Mumbai in 2011, undergoing sex reassignment surgery to fully embrace her identity.

She has made a name for herself in television, notably with her role on Colors TV’s ‘Krishna Mohini’, where she portrayed Anuradha, a trans woman professor who profoundly impacts the lead characters.

She made her debut at Lakme Fashion Week as the only trans woman to participate and has since walked for top designers like Wendell Rodricks and Archana Kochhar, serving as a showstopper at events like Bombay Times Fashion Week.
