Trump Official Meets Imran Khan’s Sons

LOS ANGELES, CA – Richard Grenell, US President Donald Trump’s envoy for special missions, met with Sulaiman Isa and Kasim Khan, sons of jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, on July 22. Following this meeting, Grenell called for Khan’s release, stating his arrest was a case of “political prosecution.”

Grenell shared a photo with Khan’s sons on X. He wrote that he “loved hanging out” with them and welcomed them to California. Grenell urged them to “stay strong,” adding, “There are millions of people around the world who are sick of political prosecutions. You are not alone.”

This marks another instance of Grenell’s support for Imran Khan. In a previous interview with Newsmax during Trump’s election campaign, Grenell had asserted that the US had “a much better relationship with Pakistan” during the Trump administration, when Khan was Prime Minister.

Grenell described Khan as a political outsider with a common-sense approach. He drew parallels between Khan’s arrest and the legal challenges faced by Donald Trump in the US. Grenell stated, “I’d like to see Imran Khan be released from jail. He’s currently in prison, facing many of the same allegations as President Trump, where the ruling party put him in prison and created some sort of corruption and false allegations.”

Meanwhile, PTI leaders continue to voice concerns regarding Khan’s poor detention conditions. Imran Khan has been imprisoned in Adiala Jail since August 2023.
