Union Minister Murugan Puts The Veshti On The Red Carpet

CANNES FRANCE, (ANI) – Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan on May 17 shared his proud moment as he walked the Cannes red carpet in a traditional Veshti.

Murugan who is leading the Indian delegation at the ongoing year’s Cannes Film Festival and attended the event in a traditional outfit rather than a Western. He shared pictures from the film festival, “As a Tamilian, I am proud to participate in the red-carpet reception of the world-famous Cannes Film Festival today wearing the Veshti shirt, a traditional symbol of Tamil.” Murugan’s white shirt had the national flag on its left side and a G20 logo on the right.

His clip featured the Oscar-winning documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ producer Guneet Monga and actor Esha Gupta on the red carpet.

Guneet opted for a golden-tone saree.

Kanu Behl’s ‘Agra’ will be his second film to have its world premiere at Cannes.

Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Kennedy’ is being screened.

A restored Manipuri film ‘Ishanhou’, will be showcased in the ‘Classics’ section.

This year’s special focus will be on India’s culture and heritage at the India Pavilion. The theme for this year’s Pavilion is based on the Goddess of knowledge, Saraswati. It has been designed by the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad with the theme – ‘Showcasing India’s Creative Economy’ to the global community.

The pavilion design has been inspired by the Saraswati Yantra, the abstract representation of the goddess.
