US Grants Aid For Development Of Hisar Airport Into Aviation Hub
NEW DELHI, (ANI) – The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has awarded a technical assistance grant to Haryana Airports Development Corporation Limited (HADC) to support the redevelopment of Hisar airport into a state-of-the-art integrated aviation hub.
Announced on December 10, the grant aims to facilitate the transformation of Maharaja Agrasen International Airport into a cargo and logistics hub, significantly boosting air cargo capacity in the National Capital Region (NCR). “USTDA’s partnership with HADC exemplifies our commitment to advancing India’s civil aviation sector,” said USTDA Director Enoh T. Ebong. “This project will enhance Hisar airport’s redevelopment, strengthen local supply chains, and provide opportunities for U.S. companies to contribute technology to its implementation.”
A Historic Airport with New Potential
Operating since 1967, Hisar airport has historically been used for general and business aviation, including private aircraft operations and pilot training. However, its limited infrastructure and distance—a three-hour drive to the nearest international airport—have constrained its ability to serve as a hub for air cargo services.
The USTDA grant will address these challenges by supporting the airport’s development into a cargo-centric facility, fostering two-way trade and investment in aviation infrastructure while strengthening the region’s supply chain network.
A Vision for Aviation Growth
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini lauded the collaboration as a symbol of progress and cooperation between India and the United States. “This partnership will leverage USTDA’s global expertise to transform Hisar into an integrated cargo complex, helping India achieve its aviation infrastructure growth targets,” he said.
The redevelopment aligns with India’s broader vision for expanding its civil aviation capabilities, including integrating regional airports into global supply chains.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
U.S. Ambassador Eric Garcetti emphasized the longstanding partnership between the U.S. and India in fostering growth in the civil aviation sector since 2007. “Together, through collaborations like this, the U.S. and India are building the future of civil aviation,” Garcetti noted.
The Hisar airport project is expected to bolster economic activity, facilitate trade, and position the airport as a key player in India’s growing aviation and logistics ecosystem.
