US Sanctions Pak Companies
ISLAMABAD (ANI) – The United States has imposed sanctions on four Pakistani firms for their alleged involvement in Pakistan’s ballistic missile program.
US Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer expressed concerns about the growing sophistication of Pakistan’s missile technology. Speaking at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace on December 20, Finer warned that the developments in Pakistan’s missile capabilities could pose a potential threat not only to the region but also to the United States.
He highlighted that Pakistan’s missile systems had become increasingly advanced, with long-range ballistic missiles and larger rocket motors, which could eventually give Pakistan the ability to target beyond South Asia. This development, according to Finer, raised serious questions about Pakistan’s intentions.
The move has drawn sharp criticism from Pakistan’s leadership, particularly Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who described the sanctions as having “no justification.” Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting, Sharif emphasized that Pakistan’s missile program was strictly for defensive purposes and not intended for aggression. “Our nuclear system is 100% for Pakistan’s defense. It’s just deterrence; nothing else,” Sharif stated, adding that the country’s ballistic missile capabilities were only meant to defend against potential external aggression.
