Vikrant Massey Stuns Fans, Announces Break From Acting

MUMBAI (ANI) – At the 55th International Film Festival of India in Goa on November 28, Vikrant Massey was honored with the Indian Film Personality of the Year award. During his acceptance speech, he drew parallels between life and his role in 12th Fail, stating, “We must always be ready to restart.” Just days later, Massey shocked fans with a heartfelt Instagram post: “The last few years have been phenomenal… But it’s time to recalibrate and go back home—as a husband, father, son, and actor. So, come 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right.”

The announcement sparked widespread reactions, as Massey is currently at the pinnacle of his career. The 37-year-old actor has delivered back-to-back hits, including 12th Fail, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba (2024), Sector 36 (2024), and The Sabarmati Report (2024). His portrayal in The Sabarmati Report, based on the 2002 Godhra train burning, garnered widespread acclaim, even earning praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The film has been declared tax-free in states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana.

However, his choice to lead the Ekta Kapoor-produced The Sabarmati Report has divided his fan base. Some fans expressed disappointment, perceiving a shift in his ideological stance and accusing him of leaning toward right-wing narratives. This backlash comes despite Massey’s earlier apology for a controversial 2018 tweet about the Kathua gang rape case, where he clarified that he never intended to offend the Hindu community.

Beyond the controversy, Massey remains celebrated for his nuanced performances and grounded personality. Coming from a multi-faith family—his mother is Sikh, his father Christian, and his brother a Muslim—he is married to Sheetal Thakur, a Rajput Hindu, and they share a son, Vardaan. His personal life has often complemented his on-screen roles, such as the devoted husband in Balika Vadhu and the sensitive Shutu in A Death in the Gunj, which have endeared him to audiences.

As Massey prepares for a self-imposed hiatus in 2025, fans are left wondering about the next chapter in the actor’s remarkable career.
