NEW YORK, NY – Comedian and actor Vir Das, currently promoting his new Netflix stand-up special Fool Volume, engaged in an impromptu street skit in New York City that has quickly gone viral. The interactionshowcases his signature comedic style while cleverly publicizing his latest work.

In the now-circulated video, a stranger approaches Das in New York, complimenting his attire and inquiring about his profession. Das, seizing the opportunity, humorously responds, “I make snack. My name is Rajinder. Have you heard of Poha?” When the individual admits unfamiliarity, Das fabricates an elaborate backstory, claiming his family has produced Poha for three centuries and built their wealth on the Indian snack.

Maintaining his character, Das then offered a piece of comedic advice, stating, “Don’t do anything on an empty stomach. To be a good comedian, your brain should work, and for that, you need carbs – like Poha.” He added, “You have to put yourself into your art as if you’re feeding your family.” The video concludes with Das lightheartedly saying in Hindi, “Isko pata nahi hai Poha kya hai, please Poha khao and mera samaan dekhlo,” which translates to, “He doesn’t know what Poha is-please eat Poha and check out my stuff.”

The post quickly garnered significant attention online. One user commented, “Nice reel buddy, innovative script,” while others lauded Das for seamlessly blending Indian culture with global comedy.

Fool Volume, available on Netflix, is the latest addition to Vir Das’s series of stand-up specials. Known for his boundary-pushing humor, Das explores themes ranging from cultural identity to modern absurdities in this new production.
