WA Gov.Bob Ferguson Attends First Baisakhi Celebration At State Capitol

OLYMPIA, WA (ANI)- The Consulate General of India in Seattle hosted the first-ever Baisakhi celebration at the Washington State Capitol, here.

The event was attended by Governor Bob Ferguson, Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck, and Secretary of State Steve Hobbs.

The Consulate expressed gratitude to the dignitaries and highlighted the enthusiastic participation of Indian American Sikh community leaders from across Washington. “Team Indian Consulate @ Seattle wishes all a very Happy Baisakhi celebration!” the post read.

State Senators, Legislators, and prominent Sikh community members also joined the celebration, marking a historic moment for the festival’s recognition at the state level.

Baisakhi, celebrated on April 13 in India, marks the Sikh New Year and the spring harvest festival in Punjab and northern India.

The festival also commemorates the founding of the Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699, who emphasized equality by abolishing caste distinctions.
