Wildfires Has Hollywood Under Siege With Lost Properties And Event Cancellations
LOS ANGELES, CA (ANI) – From celebs losing homes to postponements of notable Hollywood film premieres and events, the ongoing wildfires in Southern California are creating havoc for the movie industry.
Hollywood has already felt the effects of the wildfires with several cancelled premieres and halted production on television shows. With evacuation in place, several celebrities felt grateful for the safety of their family and friends, however, they were left heartbroken after losing their houses in the fire.
Lost Homes
‘Jurassic World’ franchise star Daniella Pineda is the latest Hollywood celeb who shared her sorrow for losing her home. The star of ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’, Bozoma Saint John also lost her home in the fire in Malibu.
Unstoppable Premiere
The premiere of Unstoppable was scheduled to take place at the DGA Theater in West Hollywood on Tuesday. Arrivals were planned for 5:30 p.m., with the screening set for 7 p.m. The cast, including Lopez, Jerome, Don Cheadle, Michael Peña, Mykelti Williamson, and Robles, along with his mother Judy Robles, had been slated to attend.
Wolf Man Premiere
Universal has canceled the Wolf Man premiere originally set for Tuesday at the TCL Chinese Theatre. A statement from a Universal PR representative read:
“Tonight’s premiere of Wolf Man is canceled due to sensitivities around the worsening weather situation in LA and related evacuations.”
PGA Awards Nominations
The Producers Guild of America has postponed the announcement of its annual awards show nominations to Sunday, January 12, due to the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires.
WGA Awards Nominations
The Writers Guild of America announced a delay in the release of its annual WGA Awards nominations. Originally scheduled for January 9, the nominations will now be unveiled on Monday, January 13, 2025.
“With Los Angeles under a state of emergency due to multiple wildfires, we will be delaying the announcement of nominees until Monday, January 13, 2025,” the Guild said in a statement.
Academy Awards
The 2025 Oscar nominations announcement, initially set for Friday, January 17, has been rescheduled for Sunday, January 19. Academy CEO Bill Kramer confirmed that the nominations voting window has been extended by two days, now closing on January 14. Additionally:
- The in-person Los Angeles Sound Branch Bake-Off, scheduled for January 11, has been canceled.
- The Academy Museum has temporarily closed to extend condolences to those affected by the wildfires.
Critics Choice Awards
The 30th annual Critics Choice Awards, initially scheduled for January 12 at the Santa Monica Airport Barker Hangar, have been postponed to January 26. Chelsea Handler, who was set to host for the third consecutive year, remains the planned host for the rescheduled event.
