NEW DELHI – The Government of India on January 3 announced the recipients of the 2025 Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards (PBSA), with three Indian Americans among the honorees: Sharad Lakhanpal, Sharmila Ford, and Ravi Kumar S. alongside 24 others from the global Indian Diaspora.

The awards will be presented during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention from January 8-10, to be held in Bhubaneswar.

Dr. Sharad Lakhanpal, Medical Science, TX

A leading rheumatologist based in Dallas, he is being honored for his work in the field of rheumatology. As a clinical professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, he has contributed significantly to medical research and clinical trials. His global influence extends to his role as president of the American College of Rheumatology and his lectures around the world, where he shares his expertise and advances the field of rheumatology.

Sharmila Ford, Community Service, MI

A devoted member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), she is being recognized for her tireless efforts in preserving Bengali culture and spirituality in the U.S. Married to Alfred Ford, great-grandson of Henry Ford, she has supported the development of the Chandrodaya Temple in Mayapur, West Bengal, and worked to further ISKCON’s global initiatives.

Ravi Kumar S.: Tech, CA

The CEO of Cognizant Technology Solutions is being honored for his transformative leadership in the IT and consulting industries. Not only has he excelled in the industry but also contributed to the U.S.-India relationship through strategic initiatives.
