WASHINGTON, DC – Three Indian Americans have been appointed to roles in the new Trump administration.
Kush Desai: Deputy Press Secretary
Former journalist and seasoned Republican communicator Kush Desai has been named Deputy Press Secretary. His experience includes serving as Deputy Communications Director for the 2024 Republican National Convention and Communications Director for the party in Iowa. At the Republican National Committee, he held the role of Deputy Battleground States and Pennsylvania Communications Director, where he helped shape messaging strategies for battleground states, including Pennsylvania. His expertise in political communications positions him as a key player in the White House’s media strategy. Desai holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from George Washington University.
Saurabh Sharma: Personnel Office

Bengaluru-born Saurabh Sharma will serve in the Presidential Personnel Office, where he will focus on staffing and appointments. Sharma is the former President of American Moment, a conservative organization dedicated to personnel development. He gained national attention in 2019 when, as a University of Texas at Austin student activist, he was among ten students invited to the White House as Trump signed an executive order promoting free speech on college campuses. Sharma graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from UT Austin in 2019, and his appointment marks a significant step in his career in public service.
Ricky Gill: Senior Director for South and Central Asia

Gill previously served at the NSC during Trump’s first term as Director for Russia and European Energy Security. He also held the role of Senior Advisor in the State Department’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations. Following his time in the administration, Gill became Principal and General Counsel at Gill Capital Group and advised TC Energy on European and Asian energy projects, including the Keystone XL Pipeline.
Born in Lodi, California, Gill is the son of physicians Param and Jasbir Gill. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
Always with an eye on Washington, Gill ran twice for Congress from California and lost both times.
