NEW DELHI- Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan, along with his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, have achieved a major milestone in their musical journey, officially taking possession of their personalized, engraved Grammy Award trophies. These handcrafted awards were recently dispatched from Los Angeles to the artists.

The trio was honored with the Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording for their work on the album ‘Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’, making them the only Indian musicians to receive a Grammy this year.

Following the receipt of their awards, the musicians traveled to McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala, on June 3 to present the trophy to the Dalai Lama, who resides there. This project marked the first Grammy win for the 90-year-old spiritual leader.

The artists highlighted their deep personal connection to the project, noting that the Dalai Lama has served as a “guiding light” for their family for many years. Reflecting on the honor in a recent social media post, the family shared their feelings of humility, stating: “To hear his reflections interwoven with music has been a deeply moving experience — one that reminds us of the power of art to uplift the human spirit”.

They further expressed their hope that the music serves as a reminder that peace, kindness, and hope are not only possible, but essential.

The album is a collaborative fusion, blending Indian classical music with elements of pop, soul, jazz, and Latin styles.

The project was produced by author and composer Kabir Sehgal and features guest contributions from artists including Maggie Rogers, Rufus Wainwright, Andra Day, Tony Succar, Ted Nash, and Debi Nova.
