Chinmaya Mission Creates Global Record With Simultaneous Online Gita Chanting

MUMBAI – Chinmaya Mission has entered the Guinness World Records for organizing the largest online simultaneous chanting event, with 8,277 verified participants from around the world reciting Chapter 15 of the Bhagavad Gita together as part of the global initiative ‘Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam’ on May 9, 2026.
The achievement surpassed the previous Guinness World Records benchmark of 5,188 participants, marking a new record for the most people chanting online simultaneously.
The record-setting event was held during the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav, a year-long celebration commemorating 75 years of the Chinmaya Movement, founded on the vision of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda. The initiative aimed to bring together devotees and followers across continents through the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, turning collective chanting into an expression of spiritual unity and reflection.
According to Chinmaya Mission, the event attracted more than 80,000 registrations from 77 countries, with over 32,000 participants joining live online chanting sessions. After completing the Guinness World Records verification process, 8,277 participants were confirmed to have fulfilled the requirements for the record.
Nearly 1,000 trained volunteers supported the initiative by coordinating chanting sessions and managing the documentation required for official verification. Chinmaya Mission also acknowledged the support of Geeta Pariwar, SGS Avadhoota Datta Peetham and Webex for their contributions to the event.
“This recognition is not merely a celebration of a world record, it is a celebration of the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita reaching hearts across continents,” said Swami Swaroopananda, Global Head of Chinmaya Mission.
“Every individual who participated became part of a collective spiritual offering that transcended geography, language and culture. The true achievement lies not in the numbers, but in the shared commitment to living the values of the Gita and carrying forward Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s vision of making Vedanta a living force in society,” he said.
The event’s organizers said the record reflects Chinmaya Mission’s ongoing efforts in spiritual education, cultural preservation, value-based learning and humanitarian service. As the organization marks 75 years of its journey, the recognition is being seen as another milestone in its global outreach and promotion of Vedantic teachings.
