UP Puts History At Tourists’ Fingertips With Barcodes At Religious Sites  

LUCKNOW-For thousands of tourists visiting religious and historical sites in Uttar Pradesh, getting information about their history, archaeological significance and associated beliefs will no longer depend solely on guides or locals.

The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced plaques with barcodes at various religious and historical sites. Visitors can scan the barcodes with their smartphones to access information about the sites, including their history, religious significance and cultural context.

A total of 575 projects have been approved for the financial year, and installation of plaques and barcodes has been completed at 14 sites.

The plaques provide essential information on a site’s archaeological and historical significance as well as associated religious beliefs.Visitors to an ancient temple, ashram or other religious site can scan the installed barcode to learn about the history, significance and beliefs associated with the location.

The sites where installation of plaques and barcodes has been completed include Nardanand Rishi Ashram in Mainpuri, Samaur Babadham in Firozabad, Vankhandeshwar Temple in Ukhrand, Chyavan Rishi Ashram in Mainpuri and Radhakrishnan Temple in Firozabad.

Other sites include Kalyani Mata Temple, Shri Durvasa Ashram, Shulkanteshwar Mahadev Temple and Shri Dashashwamedh Temple in Prayagraj.

The installation has also been completed at Paglanand Ashram and Kamanhiya Baba Temple in Ayodhya, as well as Prachin Shivala Temple, Prachin Jwaladevi Temple in Suchitaganj-Sohawal and Gehnag Baba Temple in Ayodhya.

The system marks a step towards linking Uttar Pradesh’s religious and cultural heritage with digital information and could give greater visibility to smaller and lesser-known sites with local historical and religious significance. (IANS)
