Helen Traveled To Paris For Real Feathers To Create Her Iconic Costumes
MUMBAI -Veteran actor and dancer Helen said that she traveled to Paris to source real feathers for her iconic cabaret costumes and to London for colored contact lenses and other accessories, creating the signature look that defined many of her Bollywood dance numbers.
Actor Jaaved Jaaferi, a judge on ‘India’s Best Dancer,’ praised Helen for redefining fashion and glamour in Indian cinema with her distinctive style and screen presence.
Responding to the praise, Helen said she took a hands-on approach to styling her costumes and personally sourced fashion elements from abroad to stay ahead of the times.
“I went to London and brought back colored lenses blue, brown, green along with special eyelashes. My headgears were made by my hairdresser, and I even went to Paris to source real feathers for my costumes. My jewelry, giant goggles, and accessories were all picked to stay ahead of the time.”
Helen’s feathered costumes became a defining feature of Hindi cinema’s golden era, appearing in memorable songs such as ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’ from ‘Caravan,’ ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ from ‘Sholay,’ ‘Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu’ from ‘Howrah Bridge,’ ‘Yeh Mera Dil’ from ‘Don,’ and ‘Aa Jaane Jaan’ from ‘Inteqam.’ (IANS)
