BJP Unveils New Leadership Team

NEW DELHI – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 17 unveiled its new team of national office-bearers under party president Nitin Nabin.

The announcement had been awaited since Nabin took charge as BJP president. The new team represents a mix of continuity and change, with several senior leaders retaining key responsibilities and some prominent figures returning to important organizational roles.

The reshuffle comes as the BJP prepares for a series of state elections and looks ahead to the 2029 Lok Sabha election.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has been named the BJP’s National Treasurer.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia has been appointed a National Vice President. Raje remains an influential figure in Rajasthan politics.

Former BJP national general secretary and RSS functionary Ram Madhav has also returned as a National Vice President. He is known for his role in the party’s ideological and organizational outreach.

Former Union Minister Smriti Irani has been appointed a National General Secretary. Irani, one of the party’s most recognizable women leaders, has returned to a key organizational role.

Roop Kumari Choudhary has been appointed president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, the party’s women’s wing.

The Northeast has received representation through former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who has been appointed a National General Secretary. BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland S. Phangnon Konyak has been appointed a National Secretary.

Konyak, the first woman from Nagaland to be elected to the Rajya Sabha, has also served as state president of the BJP Mahila Morcha and on parliamentary committees. Her appointment gives the Northeast and women leaders a prominent place in the new team.

The new team also includes Anil Antony, son of former Defense Minister and veteran Congress leader A.K. Antony, as a National Secretary.

Youth representation comes with Gujarat MP Hemang Joshi, who has been appointed National President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the party’s youth wing. His elevation comes as the BJP seeks to strengthen its connection with younger voters and energize its youth cadre.

The party has also appointed Kunwar Basit Ali as president of the BJP Minority Morcha. (IANS)
