LOS ANGELES, CA – The Consulate General of India in Los Angeles commemorated India’s 80th Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony at its newly established premises, bringing together members of the Indian diaspora, Indian citizens and friends of India.
The August 15 program opened with Vande Mataram, the national song of India. Consul General Dr. K. J. Srinivasa then hoisted the Tricolor, following which attendees wearing flag pins handed out by the consulate, joined in singing Jana Gana Mana, the Indian national anthem.
Srinivasa addressed the gathering of community leaders who represented groups across far flung Southern California and was also marked by its diversity. He read President Droupadi Murmu’s independence day message, which reflected on India’s journey since independence and highlighted the strength of its democracy and the contributions of citizens from all sections of society to nation-building.
Srinivasa also highlighted India’s development, including its digital transformation, growing investor confidence, renewable energy initiatives, healthcare expansion, entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities.
The ceremony concluded with community members recollecting and sharing anecdotes about India over fragrant Indian chai and snacks.
