Apoorva Makhija Shifts Base To New York, Explains Why

MUMBAI- Indian content creator Apoorva Makhija, popularly known as Rebel Kid, has shifted her base to New York, saying her strong connection with the city after visiting it influenced her decision.

Makhija confirmed her move to the US in a social media post following the release of her podcast appearance. Responding to questions from fans about her whereabouts, she wrote, “Soo… I don’t live in India anymore.”

Makhija has said she does not see herself staying in India and building a life there in the future. She also said she does not intend to remain a content creator for life and wants to eventually move into business.

Speaking about life in India, Makhija said she is currently living in what she considers the best city in the country but does not see herself spending her entire life commuting between Andheri and Colaba. She said that is not how she envisions her future.

In the podcast, Makhija explained what drew her to New York. Despite having travelled extensively, she said her experience in the city made her want to live there.

“I have traveled quite a lot and when I landed in New York, I was like, ‘I really want to live here’,” Makhija said.

Explaining what attracted her to the city, she said, “There was something about this city. It was so fast, everyone is so well dressed, and the food is great. I love the architecture and I have seen New York in almost every single web series that I love.”

Makhija also revealed that she was so certain about wanting to study in New York that she applied to only one college in the city. “I was like ‘If I get in. I get in and I’ll go’,” she said.

Her move to New York had been under consideration for some time. In June 2025, Makhija had spoken about potentially moving abroad for higher studies and said she was preparing for a master’s degree in fashion or management.

Makhija gained wider national attention after appearing on comedian Samay Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’, where an argument with a participant led to legal trouble.

She has also appeared on the reality shows ‘The Traitors’ and ‘Lock Upp Season 2’. (IANS)
