SAHARA’s 35th Annual Gala In SoCal Raises $1.1 Million To Advance Community Work

COSTA MESA, CA – The South Asian Helpline And Referral Agency (SAHARA) celebrated a remarkable evening of generosity and community at its 35th Annual Gala, held on August 30 at the Hilton Costa Mesa here, where 280 guests gathered in support of the organization’s mission.

The evening raised $1.1 million, made possible through the collective extraordinary generosity of donors anchored by a $500,000 matching gift from Manu and Rika Shah on behalf of The Shah Happiness Foundation. Through his presentation, Manubhai also amplified the message of women’s empowerment.

“We are especially grateful to Manu and Rika Shah for their extraordinary matching gift, which inspired guests to give generously, effectively doubling the impact of countless contributions,” said Vibhuti Bhuta, Board President of SAHARA. “Their generosity will enable SAHARA to strengthen the critical services that so many individuals and families rely upon while advancing our bold vision of expanding programs and extending our reach throughout Southern California.”

The evening with the theme “Seeds of Hope, Stories of Courage” presented an inspiring program highlighting SAHARA’s work, the lives impacted by its mission, and the importance of continued investment in the organization.  Guests were treated to an unforgettable experience that included a vibrant cultural dance performance by Rangashree Dances of India, an engaging and interactive presentation by a renowned mentalist, Adrian Saint and a curated silent art auction featuring a lifelong collection of beautiful paintings generously donated by Mr. and Mrs. Hamir.

We are truly appreciative of our community partners such as Advancing Justice SoCal, Legal Aid Foundation of LA, and  South Asian Bar Association,and many more for their pro bono services that help us take our mission forward,” said Executive Director Marisol Sanchez. “

SAHARA, in a statement, extended its heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, which is a testament to the power of a community united around a shared vision of hope, healing, and lasting impact.

It said it remains energized by the momentum generated through this year’s Gala and invited the community to stay engaged through volunteering, advocacy, participation in outreach and group activities, and continued philanthropic support.
