Spelling Bee Champ Knows Most Of The Gita, Will Donate Prize Money
NEW YORK, NY (ANI) – Bruhat Soma, the 12-year-old Indian American student from Florida, who is the new spelling bee champion of America, has also talked about his achievement of memorizing 80 percent of the Bhagavad Gita.
“So, actually, I did this program called Pragma, and it taught me the Vishnu, Saranamam, and the Bhagavad Gita. The Bhagavad Gita is 700 slokas, and they teach a few slokas per class for us to memorize,” Soma explained.
“I started memorizing the Bhagavad Gita gradually and then began focusing more on spelling. Now, I plan to finish memorizing the Bhagavad Gita. I believe in divine power because God makes many things happen,” he added.
Soma shared insights about his heritage, stating, “In India, I’m from Telangana. I might go back during any summer vacation or for my relative’s wedding. But, yeah, it depends. I’ll probably go back pretty soon.”
Expressing his excitement about winning the championship, Bruhat said, “When I won, I was excited and happy because I had been working hard for the past year. Winning felt like a dream come true.”
Bruhat’s victory is significant for many in India who were rooting for him. “A lot of my relatives are in India. They’ve sent congratulations and watched the video. It’s exciting to know that all my relatives back in India were supporting me,” he said.
The prize money of $50,000, Bruhat intends to donate it. “I’ve decided to donate the $50,000 to a good cause, but I haven’t chosen the cause yet. It will be for a good cause,” he said.
Looking ahead, Bruhat aspires to become a doctor and believes that his championship win will help him achieve this goal. “I want to be a doctor when I grow up, and this championship will help me get into a good university to study medicine better,” he emphasized.
