Soma Somasegar Recognized By U.S. Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C .-Indian-born technology executive and entrepreneur Sivaramakrishnan “Soma” Somasegar, a former Microsoft senior vice president and managing director at Madrona Venture Group, was honored in the U.S. House of Representatives this week for his contributions to technology, entrepreneurship and community service.
Washington Congresswoman Suzan DelBene described Somasegar as “an incredible technologist, entrepreneur, leader, and friend in our community.”
Born and raised in southern India, Somasegar moved to the United States to study at Louisiana State University before joining Microsoft in 1989. He played a key role in the development of Windows NT and rose through the company’s ranks to become Senior Vice President, a position he held until 2015.
“I had the joy of getting to know him during our time at Microsoft together,” DelBene said. “His infectious smile and warm presence brought energy to every room he entered.”
After leaving Microsoft, Somasegar joined Seattle-based Madrona Venture Group as a managing director, where he worked with entrepreneurs and emerging technology companies. DelBene said he “guided countless startups and helped strengthen our region’s innovation ecosystem.”
She also highlighted Somasegar’s community involvement, including his role as co-founder of the Seattle Orcas cricket franchise, which helped expand the sport’s presence in the Pacific Northwest.
DelBene described Somasegar as “a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment” and praised his commitment to supporting organizations focused on expanding opportunity and equity.
Calling on fellow lawmakers to honor his legacy, DelBene said Somasegar’s family, friends and colleagues would continue to cherish “his kindness and wisdom for years to come.” (IANS)
