LOS ANGELES, CA – The United States achieved a significant milestone at the Olympics on July 30, securing its 3,000th medal across the Winter and Summer Games.
The landmark was reached during the women’s 100-meter backstroke final, where Regan Smith won a silver medal and Katharine Berkoff earned a bronze. According to the United States Olympic Committee, Berkoff’s bronze medal marked the 3,000th Olympic medal for Team USA.
This achievement underscores the dominance of the United States in Olympic history, with no other country having amassed more than 1,500 medals, according to ESPN.
Additionally, Smith and Berkoff’s medals brought USA Swimming’s total to 600, further solidifying its position as the leading nation in the sport. The USA’s swimming medal count is more than double that of the next closest country, Australia.
