WASHINGTON, D.C.– Elon Musk has stepped down as head of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), marking the end of a controversial tenure aimed at cutting federal waste.

But as he exited, X’s AI assistant, Grok, was questioned by a user and it offered a blunt summary of Musk’s impact — and it wasn’t all glowing.

Musk announced his departure on X, saying, “As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I’d like to thank President Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.”

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO claimed DOGE saved $160 billion by scrapping contracts and updating outdated systems. However, Grok pointed out that these measures may have backfired, estimating $135 billion in lost productivity, legal costs, and service disruptions. It also flagged inflated savings figures and concerns over Musk’s business interests.

When asked if the government had wasted Musk’s time, Grok noted the 2025 deficit rose to $1.9 trillion, with DOGE’s cuts falling short of fixing deeper fiscal issues.

Public sentiment remains split. While some praise Musk’s push for efficiency, others have questioned the broader impact. A recent poll cited by Grok revealed 54% of Americans viewed Musk unfavorably.
