US Holds Workshop For Prevention Of Antiquities Trafficking
CHENNAI, (ANI) – The US Consul General in Chennai, Chris Hodges, organized a five-day workshop on antiquities trafficking prevention, held from September 9 – 13. The event was a collaborative effort with the governments of India, Nepal, and Tamil Nadu, following the recent signing of the Cultural Property Agreement between the US and India.
During the workshop, Hodges emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating, “This agreement is about respecting our ancestors, our history, our heritage, and one another as friends and partners.” He highlighted that the Cultural Property Agreement, signed on July 26 by Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti and Indian Ministry of Culture Secretary Govind Mohan, serves as a foundation for cooperation in preserving cultural heritage.
Hodges noted that the initiative marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration to share information and strengthen efforts in law enforcement and cultural preservation, ensuring that heritage is both protected and respected.
