No Governor Run, But A New Book: Kamala Harris Announces ‘107 Days’
India-West Staff Reporter
LOS ANGELES, CA — Just a day after confirming she will not run for California governor in 2026, former Vice President Kamala Harris on July 31 announced the release of her new memoir, ‘107 Days’, which chronicles her historic but brief campaign for the U.S. presidency.
The book, titled after the duration of her 2024 presidential bid, will be published by Simon & Schuster on September 23.
Financial details of the book deal were not disclosed.
In a video statement, Harris reflected on the experience: “Just over a year ago, I launched my campaign for President of the United States. 107 days traveling the country, fighting for our future — the shortest presidential campaign in modern history,” she said. “Since leaving office, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on those days, and with candor and reflection, I’ve written a behind-the-scenes account of that journey.”
Harris said the memoir is intended to share what she saw, what she learned, and what she believes it will take to move forward as a country.
Simon & Schuster called the book a “page-turning account.” CEO Jonathan Karp said in a statement, “Kamala Harris is a singular American leader. ‘107 Days’ captures the drama of running for president better than just about anything I’ve read. It’s one of the best works of political nonfiction Simon & Schuster has ever published. It’s an eyewitness contribution to history and an extraordinary story.”
On July 30, Harris released a statement explaining her decision not to run for California governor in 2026.
She began by expressing deep respect for those in public life. She said she had “extraordinary admiration and respect for those who dedicate their lives to public service — service to their communities and to our nation.”
She also acknowledged the shortcomings of current systems. She noted that “our politics, our government, and our institutions have too often failed the American people, culminating in this moment of crisis.”
Looking to the future, Harris emphasized the need for new approaches. She said, “As we look ahead, we must be willing to pursue change through new methods and fresh thinking.”
She concluded by calling for innovation that remains rooted in core ideals. “We must stay committed to our same values and principles, but not be bound by the same playbook,” she said.
