MONTGOMERY, AL-A 27-year-old Indian student, Sai Teja, remains in critical condition following a serious road accident in Montgomery, Alabama.
Teja, who is originally from Hyderabad, was reportedly returning from a friend’s graduation ceremony when the vehicle he was traveling in was struck by a car allegedly driven by a minor.
The collision left him with life-threatening injuries, including a severe brain injury, a fractured jaw and a fractured left leg. He is currently being treated in the intensive care unit at Baptist Medical Center South in Alabama and remains unconscious. A friend traveling with him, identified as Akhil, sustained minor injuries.
Teja recently completed his master’s degree in the United States and was actively seeking employment. According to reports, he did not have health insurance at the time of the accident.
Doctors have told those assisting him that recovery from such severe injuries is expected to be lengthy and uncertain. If he regains consciousness, he will likely require extensive rehabilitation, including neurological care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and ongoing medical treatment.
Teja’s father and brother remain in India, while friends and relatives in the United States are coordinating his care and assisting with medical and rehabilitation expenses through an online fundraiser.
