DUBLIN, CA – Bay Area resident Surendra Saxena has released a memoir, ‘Kailash: Footsteps to the Divine’, a spiritual travelogue that recounts his decades-long dream and eventual journey to Mount Kailash, one of the most sacred peaks in the Himalayas.

Mount Kailash, revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of Bon, has long drawn pilgrims seeking both physical challenge and spiritual renewal. For Saxena, the trek was more than a journey — it was the fulfillment of a 38-year calling.

“For me, Kailash was not just a mountain trek — it was a 38-year calling,” Saxena said. “This book is both a personal testimony and an offering to anyone seeking a deeper connection with the divine, with nature, or with themselves.”

The memoir blends descriptions of the Kailash Parikrama — the sacred circumambulation of the mountain — with reflections on resilience, faith, and the search for meaning in contemporary life. The narrative is anchored in Saxena’s own experience, shaped by his upbringing in the Himalayan town of Nainital and deepened through decades of professional life and personal trials.

Now 69, Saxena completed the pilgrimage later in life, describing it as both destiny fulfilled and a profound awakening.

‘Kailash: Footsteps to the Divine’ is available online through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

  • Mr. Saxena ,
I have not read your memoir yet. But I do understand your feelings on the completion of your parikrama!
What a divine feeling . I experienced the same in 2002 when I did the parikrana, at my age 51 and that too after quadruple bypass surgery. The reason being it was my life long dream to do and almighty GOD’s
    Calling.
We , who have done are BLESSED !
    Thanks
