Fremont, CA Man Kills Registered Sex Offender In Planned Vigilante Attack

FREMONT, CA — Varun Suresh, 29, of Fremont, fatally stabbed 71-year-old David Brimmer on September 18, targeting him because he was a registered sex offender. Suresh specifically sought out Brimmer using the California Megan’s Law website, taking screenshots of Brimmer’s profile just 45 minutes before the attack.

Police say Suresh used a ruse, posing as a CPA going door-to-door, to approach Brimmer. When Brimmer confirmed his identity, Suresh chased him across multiple homes, forcing his way inside a neighbor’s garage before finally stabbing Brimmer in the neck and throat on the lawn. Brimmer died at the scene despite police efforts.

Suresh told investigators he had long planned to kill sex offenders, stating that they “deserve to die” and citing a quote he believed justified his actions: “It is not your duty to decide whether Heaven will accept them, it’s your duty to send them to the gates.” He expressed no remorse, describing the attack as “honestly really fun” and saying he wasn’t trying to escape arrest.

This is not Suresh’s first violent incident. In 2021, he was arrested for a false bomb threat and criminal threats, claiming he was targeting a hotel CEO he believed was a pedophile.

Suresh is in custody, charged with murder. Authorities warn the case highlights the dangers of vigilante violence and mental health concerns.
