India Philanthropy Alliance Announces 7th Annual Youth Essay Competition

India-West News Desk

WASHINGTON, DC –  The India Philanthropy Alliance, the U.S.-based coalition of nonprofit organizations focused on India, has officially announced the launch of its 7th Annual Youth Essay Competition.

This year’s competition centers on the theme ‘#YouthWithPurpose’ and aims to highlight the role young people play in creating a better future for India and the world through critical thinking and problem-solving.

Since its inception in 2020, the competition has served as a platform for young voices to engage with global challenges and explore the impact of philanthropy. Students are invited to research a “pressing issue” facing India today and draft a compelling essay that examines specific challenges while offering potential solutions based on their research and lived experience.

“We believe that young people bring fresh perspectives to complex social challenges and can inspire innovative solutions,” stated Alex Counts, the Executive Director of the India Philanthropy Alliance. He noted that the competition “reinforces that students have the power to shape India’s future through creative ideas and a commitment to making a difference.”

The entries will be evaluated separately in middle school and high school categories by a panel of nonprofit professionals. Approximately ten standout essays will be selected for publication on the official organization website, giving students the chance to share their ideas with a “broad audience” and connect with organizations working toward “meaningful change.”

Winners in each category will have the opportunity to present their ideas at a national gathering of philanthropists, business leaders, and nonprofit executives. Furthermore, winners will be able to direct a $1,000 grant to a charitable organization of their choice, while runners-up will be able to direct a $500 grant to a selected nonprofit.

The deadline for submissions is July 1, 2026, and winners will be notified in early September.

Those selected will be invited to attend and speak at a major philanthropy conference in Dallas, Texas, on September 29, with airfare and accommodations provided by the alliance.

The competition is sponsored by the Sehgal Foundation, the Ujala Foundation, Mamta Bhandari, and the Gupta Giving Fund.
