Ambassador Sandhu Signs Off At Capitol Hill Reception

WASHINGTON, DC – Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu bid farewell to his diplomatic role in the United States at a reception hosted by a bipartisan group in the US Congress. The event, held at Capitol Hill, held special significance for Ambassador Sandhu as he reflected on his journey, stating, “Signing off from Capitol Hill- where it all started!” He expressed gratitude for the memorable send-off orchestrated by a bipartisan gathering of congressional members.
Ambassador Sandhu shared his sentiments on social media, saying, “Delighted to attend a farewell reception hosted by a bipartisan group of friends from the US Congress. Appreciate their warmth and look forward to their continued support for a stronger India-US partnership.” Among those attending were Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna, Mike Waltz, Kat Cammack, Ami Bera, Haley Stevens, Deborah Ros, and Shri Thanedar.
President Joe Biden’s top national security aide, Kurt Campbell, appreciated Sandhu’s efforts in enhancing India-US relations. At the same event, American diplomat Atul Keshap of the USIBC called Sandhu a “star” and noted that he would be dearly missed.
Ambassador Sandhu assumed charge as the Indian Ambassador to the United States in February 2020, and his tenure included overseeing then-President Donald Trump’s India visit and maintaining the momentum in bilateral ties. With a distinguished career spanning over 30 years in the Indian Foreign Service, Sandhu has served in various capacities, including Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Washington DC and High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
