Amish Shah Wins Key Endorsements In Arizona House Race

PHOENIX, AZ – Democrat Amish Shah has received endorsements from both the Human Rights Campaign PAC and the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Arizona as he campaigns for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District.
Shah, an emergency medicine doctor and former Arizona state representative, is running against former Cardinals kicker Jay Feely, who has been endorsed by President Donald Trump. The candidates are seeking to replace longtime Rep. David Schweikert, who decided not to seek reelection. The district has attracted attention from both parties as they compete for control of the US House.
CLEAA, which represents more than 2,100 law enforcement officers across Arizona, endorsed Shah August 19. The group said his record in the state legislature and his willingness to meet with its leadership were among the reasons for its decision.
“In the Arizona State House, Amish Shah worked to keep our communities safe, support law enforcement officers, and to stop the flow of fentanyl into our communities,” CLEAA Chairman Jason Winskey said. “We know he’ll continue to do the same in Congress.”
Shah’s legislative record includes a 2023 bill that sought to extend Arizona’s fallen officer tuition benefit to family members of officers who died by suicide after being diagnosed with PTSD. The measure failed that year but was approved by the legislature the following year.
The Human Rights Campaign PAC announced its endorsement of Shah August 21, citing his support for LGBTQ+ equality and other issues affecting residents of the district.
“Arizonans deserve a champion who will fight for equality and address the real issues that impact the lives of those in the state’s 1st Congressional District. Dr. Shah is that champion,” HRC President Kelley Robinson said.
Shah said he has long supported Arizona’s LGBTQ+ community.
HRC criticized Feely over his support for President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” saying it would increase the district’s uninsured population by 31,000. The organization also criticized Feely’s support for efforts targeting healthcare access for transgender children.
Shah’s congressional platform includes lowering costs for Arizona families, protecting Medicare and Medicaid, supporting abortion rights and improving public health and safety.
CLEAA’s endorsement is notable in the context of Shah’s earlier congressional campaign. The group did not endorse him when he previously ran against Schweikert, while the Arizona Police Association endorsed both candidates. Schweikert won that race with 51.9 per cent of the vote.
