NEW DELHI (ANI)— Actor Karan Tacker, who began his career on Indian television and recently walked the red carpet at Cannes, reflected on the challenges of making it in the entertainment industry without industry connections.
Tacker said, “You don’t really get people to meet you very easily. It’s a lot of knocking on doors — casting directors, producers, or directors you want to work with.”
Tacker, known for Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai and Special OPS, said transitioning from TV to films was difficult. “There was a certain perception about actors from television. That was a bit of a barrier to jump,” he added.
Comparing his journey to that of star kids, Tacker said, “As an outsider, you can’t compete with actors from film families. They can pick up the phone and get advice or guidance easily. For us, the first chunk of our careers is just about finding our bearings.”
Tacker shared that acting wasn’t part of his original plan. He studied business and worked with his father before the 2008 recession pushed him to explore acting. “It was a tough time for us financially. Whatever money I earned in the first few years went toward paying off family debts,” he said.
Despite the challenges, he credits fate for his journey. “I say magical, because maybe it was destined to happen this way,” he said.
