Anant Nambiar, a longtime community leader and financial executive, is running for the office of Westchester County Legislator in District 7. If elected, he would become the first Indian American or South Asian to hold the position, marking a historic step for representation in the county.
Early this month, the Rye City Democratic Committee voted unanimously to endorse Nambiar, currently a Mamaroneck Town Councilman, to replace outgoing lawmaker Catherine Parker.
Nambiar, 55, has served on both the Mamaroneck Town Council and the Mamaroneck School Board, where he has been a strong advocate for Indian American and South Asian communities. He and his wife, both born in India, have actively promoted their heritage, including efforts to establish Diwali as a school holiday in Westchester.

His campaign prioritizes key issues such as flooding, housing affordability, and fiscal responsibility. With over 25 years of experience in senior roles at American Express, Mastercard, and Synchrony Financial, Nambiar highlights his financial expertise as a crucial asset in managing Westchester County’s $2.5 billion budget.
“Westchester is facing complex challenges, and we need bold, results-driven leadership,” Nambiar said. “I have a track record of solving problems—whether it was guiding the school district through financial crises or improving fiscal performance on the Town Board.”
He also points to findings from a 2022 study on Asian Americans in Westchester, which identified priorities such as mental health services, language accessibility, and anti-discrimination efforts. He pledges to champion these issues while ensuring District 7 receives its fair share of county resources.
Since retiring from the corporate sector in 2021, Nambiar has committed himself fully to public service. He promises transparency and community engagement through regular meetings and multilingual newsletters. “Government works best when it listens,” he said. “I want every resident to feel heard, valued, and represented.”
