MUMBAI (ANI) –Anurag Kashyap has issued a public apology for his remarks against the Brahmin community, acknowledging that he “forgot his limits” while responding to a provocative social media comment.

The controversy emerged after Kashyap posted a critique online related to the censorship of his upcoming film Phule, based on the life of social reformer Jyotirao Phule. The post drew backlash, with police complaints alleging that his comments hurt the religious and social sentiments of the Brahmin community.

Kashyap expressed regret, stating that in anger, he spoke inappropriately about an entire community — many of whom he considers part of his life and work.

“In anger, while replying to someone, I forgot my limits and spoke badly about the Brahmin community,” he wrote. “Many of my peers, intellectuals I admire, and my own family were hurt by what I said. I deeply regret the way I spoke.”

He apologized “from the bottom of his heart” to his colleagues, family, and the community, and pledged to work on controlling his anger.

“I will ensure this doesn’t happen again. If I must speak on an issue, I will do so with the right words,” he added, asking for forgiveness.

This marks Kashyap’s second public apology since the controversy erupted. In a previous statement, he said his remarks had been taken out of context and condemned the threats made against his family.

“This is my apology—not for my post—but for that one line taken out of context and the hatred it has triggered,” he clarified, urging people not to target his family. “Brahmins, please spare the women, even the scriptures teach this much decency.”

A formal complaint was filed on April 19 in Indore by Anoop Shukla.
