Arriving In The US Just 10 Days Ago, Indian Student Shot Dead By Muggers
CHICAGO, IL (IANS) – A student from Andhra Pradesh was killed and another from Telangana was injured when muggers opened fire on them on January 22 at Princeton Park, here.
Nandapu Devansh, 23 from Vijayawada was killed while Koppala Sai Charan from Hyderabad was injured. Another student Laxman from Visakhapatnam escaped unhurt.
The three students had arrived in the US only 10 days ago following their admission to Chicago’s Governors State University. They were staying together in a rented apartment.
The trio had gone out to buy a router for an Internet connection when two armed men waylaid them. The burglars ordered the students to hand over their mobile phones and told to share their passwords. They also took all the cash that was the students.
While leaving the scene, the armed men opened fire. Devasnh and Sai Charan sustained bullet wounds while Laxman narrowly escaped.
The victims alerted the police, who rushed there and shifted the injured to the hospital. Devansh succumbed while undergoing treatment.
Sai Charan was admitted to the University Medical Centre. He was said to be out of danger. He had landed in Chicago on January 13 for doing his masters.
