As Trump Ignores Her, Nikki Haley Playing It Both Ways With Voters

NEW YORK, NY – Nikki Haley, who once challenged Donald Trump for the Republican nomination, has been drawing attention for her mixed stance regarding her support for the former president.

On September 9, during an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Haley said she is willing to campaign for Trump. “He knows I’m on standby,” she said. “I talked to him back in June. He’s aware that I’m ready if he ever needs me to do that.” She added that she is not involved in his debate preparation or campaign but would be “happy to be helpful” if asked. But she has not been asked.

When asked if Trump is a “good candidate,” Haley sidestepped, stating, “I think he is the Republican nominee.” She added, “Now, do I agree with his style, do I agree with his approach, do I agree with his communications? No.” However, she emphasized that she agrees with him on policy matters.”

Haley’s desire to have it both ways with Trump and GOP voters who don’t support him, has come under fire especially from former Rep. Liz Cheney, who criticized Haley as lacking principles, given her previous critiques of Trump. Cheney and her father, former vice president Dick Cheney grabbed headlines all weekend with their public affirmation of being strong conservatives but promising this cycle to vote for Democrat Kamala Harris.

Haley defended her decision, stating on “FOX & Friends” that her support is “based on substance” rather than style, adding, “We can’t live the next four years like we did the last four years.”
