CHINO HILLS, CA – BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha marked the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence with nationwide celebrations focused on community service, civic engagement and interfaith dialogue as part of the America250 commemorations.
The events also highlighted the contributions of Indian Americans and other South Asian communities, recognizing the opportunities that have enabled generations of immigrants to preserve their heritage while contributing to healthcare, education, business, public service, technology and the arts in the United States.
BAPS partnered with America250, the national nonpartisan initiative leading the country’s Semi quincentennial celebrations, and organized mandir events, open houses, volunteer activities and interfaith gatherings across the country.
Mandirs were illuminated in red, white and blue as families and community members took part in patriotic programs reflecting on shared American values.
At the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville, New Jersey, veterans and local residents joined devotees for a flag-hoisting ceremony. In Los Angeles, the BAPS mandir held a flag-raising ceremony with veterans and hosted an open house for the wider community. In Houston, the mayors of Sugar Land, Missouri City, Pearland and Stafford attended celebrations where the mandir was lit in the national colors and the U.S. national anthem was played.

Many events also featured interfaith discussions, volunteer initiatives and family activities centered on religious freedom, pluralism and community service.
BAPS also highlighted a letter written by its spiritual leader, His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, to mark America’s 250th anniversary. In the letter, he said the freedoms and opportunities available in the United States had enabled the community to become part of the American story while carrying “a shared responsibility to serve, strengthen, and uplift our country.”
The celebrations brought together elected representatives, veterans, faith leaders, nonprofit organizations and residents.
Speaking at the Los Angeles event, California State Representative Brian Lorenz said, “This celebration provides a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the founding ideals and lasting values which shaped the United States of America.”
BAPS Charities also incorporated America250 themes into its annual Walk-Run events across North America, supporting local charitable causes through volunteer participation.
The organization said its volunteers, guided by the teachings of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, remain committed to strengthening communities through service, civic engagement and partnerships that promote harmony and mutual understanding.
