Canada As 51st State: Trump Shares A Canadian’s Proposal

WASHINGTON, DC (ANI) – President-elect Donald Trump is once again onto to his proposal for Canada to become the 51st state of the United States. In a Truth Social post on January 3, Trump shared a New York Post article highlighting Canadian investor and Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary’s endorsement of the idea.

The article, dated December 26, 2024, reported O’Leary’s claim that “at least half” of Canadians would support a merger with the U.S. O’Leary, speaking on Fox Business, expressed enthusiasm for brokering an “economic union” between the neighboring nations, stating, “Canadians over the holidays… want to hear more.”

Trump’s proposal, originally floated earlier in December, suggested that Canada would benefit from lower taxes and enhanced military protection under U.S. governance. “Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State. They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

In another post, he criticized U.S. financial support to Canada, asking, “No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year? Makes no sense!”

Trump’s broader ambitions extend beyond Canada. During his Christmas greetings, he reiterated calls to acquire Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal, citing economic and national security advantages.

Trump has long championed Greenland’s strategic importance, describing its ownership as vital for “national security and freedom throughout the world.” Similarly, he labeled the Panama Canal a “vital national asset” critical to the U.S. economy and security.
