FORDS, NJ – On January 12, over 450 music enthusiasts filled Royal Albert’s Palace for a Centennial Tribute to the legendary Showman of Indian Cinema, Raj Kapoor, alongside a dedication to the late Shobhna Patel on her first death anniversary. The event featured over 25 singers performing 50 timeless songs in a four-hour program.

Honoring Raj Kapoor’s monumental contributions to Indian cinema, the tribute celebrated his legacy with classic songs from films like AagBarsaatAwaraShree 420, and Mera Naam Joker. Kapoor, who began his career at the age of 11 and earned the Padma Bhushan and Dada Saheb Phalke Award, is remembered as a pioneer in Indian filmmaking.

The event also paid tribute to Shobhna Patel, a cultural advocate who helped preserve Indian heritage in the U.S. through her involvement in organizing Miss India NJ and Miss Teen NJ, along with numerous cultural events. Patel’s legacy continues to shape the community’s cultural landscape, even after her passing on January 12, 2024.

Edison Township Mayor Sam Joshi attended to commend the Indian community’s contributions, and the event was hosted by AUM Events and South Asian Culture, Heritage & Arts, a non-profit organization led by Jayesh Mehta.
