Indian batter and skipper Rohit Sharma has made a shock announcement of his retirement from Test cricket. We take a look at his top five innings in the longest format of the game.
177 vs West Indies (2013)
During Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell Test, Rohit Sharma made his debut against the West Indies at Wankhede Stadium. Coming in at number six, he scored a stunning 177 off 301 balls, including 23 fours and a six. He was named ‘Player of the Match’ as India secured a victory by an innings and 51 runs.
212 vs South Africa (2019)
After years of inconsistency, Rohit was promoted to open the innings in Tests. In the third Test of his first series as an opener, against South Africa in Ranchi, he smashed a scintillating 212 off 255 balls, with 28 fours and six sixes, striking at over 83. His innings helped India post 497/9 declared. South Africa couldn’t surpass India’s total across both innings, losing by an innings and 202 runs.
161 vs England (2021)
With India trailing 0-1 in the series, Rohit delivered under pressure on a difficult Chennai pitch that tested every batter. His masterful 161 off 231 balls, featuring 18 fours and two sixes, guided India to a total of 329. The hosts went on to win the Test by 317 runs.
127 vs England (2021)
At The Oval, Rohit notched his first overseas century with a composed and technically sound 127 off 256 deliveries. With India trailing by 99 runs, he led the fightback with 14 fours and a six, reaching the three-figure mark with a towering shot off Moeen Ali. India posted 466 and eventually won the match, bowling out England for 210 in the final innings.
5 / 5 — 120 vs Australia (2023)
On a spin-friendly Nagpur pitch, Rohit stood tall against a world-class Australian attack. After bowling out Australia for 177, he anchored India’s innings with a gritty 120 off 212 balls, laced with 15 fours and two sixes. With the top order faltering, his knock proved pivotal in taking India to a total of 400. Australia never recovered from the first-innings deficit. (ANI)
