TORRANCE, CA – Debashish Bhattacharya, the virtuoso slide guitarist and one of the most influential figures in Indian classical music today, continues to push the boundaries of the art form. Known for his mastery of both traditional Hindustani music and modern world fusion, Bhattacharya has revolutionized slide guitar performance, designing and patenting unique instruments like the Chaturangui, a 26-string slide guitar, and the Pushpa Veena, a 25-string hybrid of the sarod and slide guitar.

With a career spanning over 3,000 live performances and 27 albums, Bhattacharya has garnered international acclaim, including two Grammy nominations and a spot on the Billboard top 10. His ability to blend complex rhythms, intricate melodies, and deep emotional expression has made him a standout artist in the global music scene.

Joining him on stage are his daughter, Anandi Bhattacharya, a rising star known for her soulful vocals, and his younger brother, Subhasis Bhattacharya, a renowned percussionist. Together, they form the Debashish Bhattacharya Legacy Trio, a group dedicated to celebrating and preserving the rich traditions of Indian classical music.

This fall, the trio will bring their talents to U.S. audiences with a special tribute to the pioneering Indian recording artists of the early 1900s. On Friday, October 4, at 8:00 PM, they will perform at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center, recreating the spirit of a bygone era with their unique blend of slide guitar, vocals, and tabla.

Dressed in period attire and playing ornate instruments of Debashish’s own design, the trio will transport listeners to the early days of Indian music, where families gathered around radios to hear the first celebrity musicians.
