Despite Trump, CPAC Views Vance As Successor

WASHINGTON, DC – A straw poll conducted at the 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) found that conservative voters expect Vice President JD Vance to be the Republican Party’s presidential nominee in the 2028 election cycle. The conference took place at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

This comes despite former President Donald Trump recently dismissing speculation about Vance as his successor while also floating the idea of a third term for himself.

According to the full CPAC straw poll results, Fox News reported that attendees also saw figures like Steve Bannon, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as potential contenders behind Vance. The straw poll has historically aligned with conservative voting trends, correctly predicting Trump’s victory in both the 2024 primary and general election.
