ALBANY, NY- The IIT (BHU) Foundation has crossed a major philanthropic milestone, surpassing $10 million in total donations—thanks in large part to a transformative $1.6 million contribution from alumnus Dev Goswami and his wife, Dr. Vardhana Goswami.
A 1974 graduate in Mechanical Engineering, Dev Goswami is currently Executive Chairman of IPS LLC, a Berkshire Hathaway company. His landmark gift marks the single largest contribution toward the foundation’s vision of building next-generation academic infrastructure on campus.
The funds will support the creation of a new Lecture Hall Complex at IIT Varanasi—a facility intended to redefine learning for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students. Designed as a hub for academic innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, the complex will include three floors of modern classrooms and cooperative learning spaces accommodating up to 1,850 students.
The building will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including smart boards, high-speed Wi-Fi, acoustic optimization, ergonomic seating, and group study areas—all built with inclusivity and accessibility in mind.

Goswami, a pioneering figure in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries, has long credited his education for shaping his career. His latest act of philanthropy highlights the growing influence of the institute’s global alumni network and its commitment to supporting the next generation of technology and business leaders.
“My vision for this complex is to have a vibrant space that would foster learning, interaction, networking and collaboration,” Goswami said, “ultimately leading to the development of highly skilled technology and business leaders who can make a difference in the world.”
