SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Ajay Bhutoria, a deputy national finance chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) based in California, recently convened a meeting with Asian and South Asian supporters of Kamala Harris to mobilize AAPI voters in advance of the upcoming election.

Bhutoria engaged in a conversation with the group regarding the current state of the race, with an emphasis on the organization and volunteering efforts in battleground states. He emphasized the critical importance of connecting with Asian and South Asian voters in multiple languages to ensure broad-based support for Harris in the upcoming election.

Despite the obstacles that lay ahead, Bhutoria expressed confidence in Harris’s capacity to establish a diverse and extensive coalition. “Make no mistake: we head into the final stretch of this race as the clear underdog,” he said voicing what the candidate is saying.

He brought attention to Harris’s stance on voter-friendly issues, like reproductive rights protection and middle-class economic policies. Bhutoria also pointed to the campaign’s operational strength, which has been bolstered by record fundraising. “That money is going directly to a relentless battleground operation, with more than 312 coordinated offices and 2,000 staff in the states – a reflection of a campaign with presences in every corner of every battleground state and with the communities critical to victory.”

Bhutoria announced his intention to release Bollywood-music based videos to attract voters. Similar Bollywood-inspired campaign videos created by Bhutoria in 2020 became popular online. “South Asian votes could be the margin of victory in battleground states, and we will do everything we can to turn out the votes for Vice President Harris and Tim Walz,” he stated.

  • I wonder if I am wrong here. But the voter rolls probably indicate no more than those of South Asian origin. They would thus have minimal impact on the outcome. We have to be careful that an over zealouseffort on our part and itsassociated publicity may drive away some on the fencesand the fringes, particularly those with a white supremacist bias. It will particularly be more apparent if we try to overly publicize her South Asian roots.
