FDA Flags Indian-Made Kadai For Lead Risk

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Kadai sold under the brand name Tiger White, manufactured in India by Saraswati Strips Pvt. Ltd., has been found to leach dangerous levels of lead into food, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in an urgent public alert.
The cookware, discovered at the retail store Mannan Supermarket in Jamaica, New York, the FDA said, could not be traced back to its U.S. distributor, prompting it to warn consumers directly. “Retailers should discontinue sale and consumers should not use this product as cookware or food storage,” the agency said.
But the warning goes beyond a single brand. According to the FDA, testing by the agency and its state partners showed that cookware made from aluminum, brass, and certain aluminum alloys can release unsafe amounts of lead into food. The agency urged consumers to discard any such products immediately, stressing, “Do not donate or refurbish this cookware.”
“As we continue surveillance, additional products that are found to be non-compliant will be added to the public alert as needed,” the FDA noted, adding that it is actively working to remove dangerous cookware from circulation.
The agency also reminded retailers and distributors that they bear responsibility for ensuring the products they sell meet all safety regulations.
