WASHINGTON, DC – Time reports that Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, a freshman Democrat from Northern Virginia, is working tirelessly to respond to President Trump and Elon Musk’s efforts to slash the federal workforce. The 38-year-old, now a month into his tenure, is pacing the Capitol and his district keeping up with the sweeping federal workforce reductions.

Subramanyam has joined ousted employees outside the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Treasury Department, denouncing Musk’s restructuring, Time said. In his district—home to 34,000 federal workers—anxiety is rising. At a Leesburg town hall, he expected a small crowd but found hundreds packed inside and more watching from the lobby, many expressing fears about job losses and funding freezes.

Subramanyam, who previously served in the Obama administration, has also raised alarm over Musk’s hiring practices. The Department of Government Efficiency recently reinstated Marko Elez, a software engineer linked to racist social media posts. “It shows the values of the people Musk is bringing on,” Subramanyam told Time.

Despite his opposition to much of Trump’s agenda, Time noted that Subramanyam crossed party lines last month to support the Laken Riley Act, Trump’s first signed law of his second term. Looking ahead, he told Time his focus is on exposing the administration’s actions: “Our job is to educate people… and, if we can get back in power in two years, do real oversight.”
