LOS ANGELES, CA — Supriya Ganesh, the breakout star of the hit medical drama The Pitt, was all smiles on the red carpet at the 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, where the series celebrated its impressive haul of five wins and 13 nominations.
While the spotlight was on her show’s standout castmates, Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa, Ganesh’s presence reminded fans of the relatable, ambitious third-year resident Dr. Samira Mohan she brings to life on screen.
At 27, Ganesh is finding that fame comes in the quirkiest moments. “I’m recognized most often when I look my worst,” she told People magazine. “When I’m going to the gym, when I’m hungover in a 7-Eleven, everyone’s like, ‘Oh my God, that’s Dr. Samira Mohan from The Pitt.’ It feels nice to clean up for a night out, though.”

Born in the U.S. to Indian parents on December 16, 1997, Ganesh moved to New Delhi at age three, later splitting her childhood between India and America. Her bicultural upbringing left a lasting impression. “I remember growing up in India and in the U.S., and thinking, ‘None of these people on TV look like me,’” she said.
Now, as Dr. Mohan, she says she receives countless messages from South Asian women and medical professionals who feel represented on screen. “It just means so much that I can give back to the community,” she told People.

Ganesh’s path to acting was unconventional. A Columbia University graduate with a degree in neuroscience and a minor in gender studies, she originally planned to attend medical school. Her screen debut came in 2018 on Blue Bloods, and she continued tutoring MCAT students even as The Pitt aired its first season. Her career has since expanded with roles on Law & Order: SVU, Chicago Med, and Grown-ish, and a stage appearance as Vaidehi in Deepak Kumar’s House of India at the Old Globe Theatre in May 2025.
