Governor Proclaims India Day, Recognizes Contributions Of Indian Minnesotans

ST.PAUL, MN – In a symbolic gesture of friendship and cultural appreciation, Minnesota‘s Democratic Governor Tim Walz has officially designated August 15, 2023, as India Day.
In his proclamation, Governor Walz acknowledged the significance of India as the world’s largest democracy, housing nearly a fifth of the global population and embodying remarkable diversity intertwined with a rich cultural legacy.
Reflecting on the Indian American presence in Minnesota, the Governor said, “Following the enactment of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, Minnesota embraced Indian immigrants, and today, the state boasts an Indian American community of approximately 55,000 individuals.”
The Governor commended the myriad contributions made by Indian Minnesotans across various fields, such as education, business, healthcare, technology, and the arts. Their dedication and innovation have deeply impacted the fabric of the state. The proclamation echoed, “The contributions and heritage of Indian Americans have played a vital role in helping and continuing to create a better nation and state.”
In harmony with the proclamation, the India Association of Minnesota orchestrated the vibrant India Fest on August 12, 2023, at the Minnesota State Capitol grounds. The event marked a celebration of India’s diverse culture, heritage, and traditions, while also commemorating the association’s 50 years of existence. Festivities included a spirited flag-raising ceremony and a lively parade.
Indian Minnesotans seized the opportunity to display their ethnic roots and the profound impact they have had on the vitality of Minnesota. The event showcased an array of cultural expressions, including traditional attire, music, dance performances, and delectable cuisine.
